Many people are not happy where they are in their work. Maybe they want a new employer, maybe they want a new position, or maybe they want a whole new industry. Whatever the case, they are discontent. Is this kind of discontentment good or bad, and how can it be advantageous to you either way? If it transfers to your performance at work in an attitude of bitterness and resentment, it certainly is not helping you or anyone else. And if it’s no help to anyone, then it only produces negative results in your performance and relationships. And if it follows you home, that’s even worse. If discontentment is not leading to improvement in life, then it’s probably time to take a serious look at it. And what happens when you take a look at it? Well, you could start to ask some very helpful questions like:

What other thing would I like to be doing more?

What steps can I take to move in a direction leading to contentment?

What about my situation am I not accepting that would be true no matter what changed?

All of these questions can begin you on a road of improvement for yourself and, in effect, for those around you. Discontentment is simply not comfortable. And you can use that discomfort to feed the fire of bitterness and resentment, or you can use that discomfort to feed the fire of change and growth.

So what are you discontent with?
